Vote Now: SHM Redenomination Proposal (Oct 6–8, 2025)

This proposal seeks community consensus on redenominating SHM tokens ahead of the upcoming Shardeum EVM mainnet launch. The redenomination, first outlined in our announcement blog, is now open for community voting.

Voting Options

• Option 1: Redenominate the initial supply by a factor of 240 (resulting in 59.76 billion SHM)
• Option 2: Retain the initial supply on the Shardeum EVM network as-is (249 million SHM)

Voting Timeline and Method

• Voting Window: Oct 6, 2025, 2:30 PM UTC – Oct 8, 2025, 8:30 AM UTC
• Final Snapshot: Oct 8, 2025, 9:30 AM UTC (post voting window)
• Real-Time Balance Tracking: User balances will be monitored throughout the voting window and shown to you each time you vote.
• Voting Weight Calculation: Determined by the lowest SHM balance between:
  • Real-time balance during the voting window, and
  • Final balance at the snapshot block (October 8, 2025)
• Voting Mechanism: Requires connecting your wallet

Effects of Redenomination/Token Split

If Option 2 (redenomination) is approved:

• The initial supply of 249 million SHM will be redenominated to 60 billion SHM at the time of the EVM mainnet launch
• SHM tokenomics allocations will remain unchanged
• Validator rewards will continue to come from ongoing issuance, designed to keep the network secure and to ensure validators are always incentivized.
• All wallet balances, including validator rewards, past stakes, unclaimed rewards, will automatically increase ×240
  • For example, if your SHM balance of 100 SHM is worth $5, after the split you would hold 24,000 SHM which is still worth $5

Purpose of Redenomination
