We’re excited to announce that Shardeum EVM Mainnet will launch with full smart contract functionality on October 30, 2025.
Earlier this month, on October 3, we rolled out the EVM Testnet. Just days later, on October 6, we invited the community to vote on redenominating SHM supply from 249 million to 60 billion – a proposal shaped directly by your feedback, which we deeply appreciate.
To implement the voting process, we built a community voting page from scratch in just three days - working over the weekend to deliver what the community asked for, despite not yet having smart contract support. Thank you for voting and deciding together on the 1:240 token split. Staying true to our OCC ethos, we will continue to walk this path and build Shardeum’s ecosystem alongside you.
The results are in after the voting ended on 8th October: 85% of the community voted in favor of redenomination, while 15% voted against. Splitting SHM to a 1:240 ratio will increase the token count and lower per-token price creating a stronger sense of affordability, driving retail interest in fast-emerging markets like India.
Several projects like Ripple (XRP) and Polkadot (DOT) have shown how a high token supply can drive accessibility and create significant potential as real utility expands. Moreover, this helps exchanges, wallets, dApps, and first-time users onboard SHM more easily, creating a network effect favoring high adoption.
With the vote now concluded and the EVM mainnet launch approaching, we’ll be working with exchanges and partners to implement the redenomination. Your balances will automatically update to reflect the new supply. No action is required from your side.
The token-only network will halt at block 2,639,029
on October 28 at 04:30 AM UTC. The redenomination will take effect at block 2,639,030
on October 30 at 04:30 AM UTC, after which your updated balances will appear automatically. Stay tuned to our official channels for upcoming updates. For questions or ideas, join the discussion on our Discord.
Together, let’s onboard India onchain!
1. After redenomination, how will my wallet recognize SHM on the new EVM mainnet?
Once Shardeum EVM mainnet is live on October 30th, SHM will exist as a native token on the new chain. Your self-custodial wallet (such as MetaMask) will recognize SHM on the Shardeum EVM network with the same RPC details and chain ID as the existing token-only network. After launch, your redenominated balance will appear automatically, and you’ll be able to send and receive SHM as usual.
2. Will deposits and withdrawals on exchanges be paused during the redenomination or during migration to EVM mainnet? If so, when?
Exchanges may briefly pause SHM deposits and withdrawals while integrating changes related to the EVM mainnet migration. This is a standard practice to ensure balances are updated correctly and trading resumes smoothly. As noted in the blog above, the token-only network will halt at block 2,639,029
on October 28 at 04:30 AM UTC. The redenomination will then take effect at block 2,639,030
on October 30 at 04:30 AM UTC, after which your updated balances will appear automatically. For additional updates, please stay tuned to our official channels.
3. As a validator, do I need to unstake or take any action before Shardeum EVM mainnet launch, and how will the redenomination affect my tokens and rewards?
When EVM mainnet launches, all SHM – including staked tokens and uncollected rewards – will be automatically redenominated at the 1:240 ratio and reflected in your staking accounts. Token-only mainnet will continue until the EVM launch. Your current nodes can run as usual until we announce the official migration timeline.
4. Can I run a node on Shardeum EVM mainnet?
Anyone can continue to run a node by staking SHM, with active validator slots determined by the amount staked. Validation will follow a block-based architecture with fast finality, block production, and slashing mechanics similar to other proof-of-stake blockchains. For a broader participation, delegation will also be supported, allowing SHM holders to back validators of their choice, share in rewards, and still contribute to network security without running their own node.
Note, detailed instructions and updated hardware requirements for validators on the EVM network will be shared after the EVM mainnet launch.
5. Where can I find details on Shardeum’s new consensus, architecture, and API configurations?
We’ll be updating the official docs leading up to and through the EVM mainnet launch to guide partners, developers, and validators.
6. Can developers test their applications on the EVM testnet so we can move our dApps to mainnet when it launches?
Yes. Smart contracts can be deployed and interacted with. In fact, we already have several dApps currently being developed by community members. Here are the testnet endpoints.
7. What are the plans on auditing the new EVM network. Will there be any bug bounties?
While the base software is widely adopted and audited in the blockchain ecosystem, we will provide further details on bug bounties in due course.
8. How can we provide feedback or report bugs on the network?
You can report bugs through our dedicated Discord channel.
9. Where can I ask my questions or clear doubts about Shardeum’s EVM mainnet launch?
You can post your questions or doubts directly on the Shardeum Discord. Our team and community members will be happy to help.
